Research has shown a strong correlation between access to books in the home and increased literacy rates for children of all ages as well as a strong correlation between a child’s access to an author and literacy rates. In one study, children were twice as likely to read above their grade level if they’ve had an author visit their school, were more likely to enjoy reading, and were more likely to be confident in their reading. Those are some big benefits!
Yet to many publishers, author visits only make economic sense when students can afford to buy books.
That’s where The Noble Neighbor comes in.
Since 2019, we have given nearly 8,506 kids a new book and connected them with 44 authors!
What Students are Saying
99% of students who attended recent virtual author visits said they planned to read their new book after meeting the author!
- “It was the best author visit I ever had. My favorite part was when she talked about her experiences, answered questions and said my name! She inspired me to write more and to look at things close.”
- “I love that she shared a poem on where she’s from. She inspired me to write poems.”
